White horizontal line on my laptop.

Hi, I received a laptop from a friend recently and it has a half inch thick white line on the screen near the bottom. The screen sort of loops around the white line (the white line acts as the top of the screen, as the image from the top half hits the edge of the screen it loops to the bottom of the screen till the white line). Is there anyway to fix this? Its a Sony VAIO. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Call Sony if it is still under warranty. Try an external monitor and see if it occurs on that monitor also. If not, you could remove the bezel holding in the LCD panel and try reseating all the connections.

WARNING: Do NOT try and reseat LCD cables if the system is still under warranty!
