White has purplish hue after I look at my monitor

I got a new monitor recently and did the Win7 color calibration to make sure the colors are right but I get this funny effect where after I stare at my monitor and then look at something white like my ceiling or a sheet of paper, it appears to have a purplish tone to it.

What is up with that?

You have your monitor too bright.

You calibrated your monitor more on the "cooler" side of the spectrum.
