White growths on soda cans

Ok so i found some soda cans from new years that had been in an icebox some fool tucked into a corner. The ice melted, obviously. So the cans have been floating in water for a few weeks. I found them, and thought score! coke! (please no jokes...) But there were these white growths on the bottom and top of the cans.... If I wipe them off, is it safe to drink?

EDIT: WITH PIC

It's a fungus that spreads to whatever it touches...including humans. Sorry, your body will be taken over in a few days time.

Uh, I suppose. I mean the METAL can should prevent that stuff from getting inside.

Oh, and PICS?

Crap I just wiped them off. Looks like it could be fungus, or just some type of oxidation from whatever cans are made of these days.

The cans are still sealed? The soda itself should be fine, but I wouldn't put my mouth on that can. If you really really want to get safe about it, wipe a mixture of warm water and a little bit bleach on the can to kill the mold. When the mold is gone, be sure to rinse and wipe the bleach off well before putting your mouth anywhere on the can. If you die, its not my fault.

EDIT: Little bit = a few droplets

AND BE SURE TO WIPE/RINSE WELL.

It's probably mold. You might want to wash it off a little better before you drink it.

It's probably the aluminum corrosion. Corrosion on aluminum shows up as white flaky build-up on the metal.
