Agreed. I guess giving him the money and getting him out the door without anybody getting hurt is probably the goal though? There can't be that much money in the drawer, relative to the nightmare of a hostage situation.

Looks like the tellers are behind bullet proof glass? They have some sort of thick glass/acrylic partition. If so, why not tell him to go pound sand and laugh at him.

While the teller may be safe, that's not so for other customers. Bank management probably tells the tellers to comply without resisting in order to prevent any violence. That would help keep them from getting sued by victims if the robber decided to take everyone else out in a hail of lead.
