White film on top of Athlon XP-M CPU ?

I wouldn't worry about the white. It may have had some of that white thermal gel on it. However, that cpu doesn't look right, but it could just be the angle. It may very well have been damaged/melted, from heat. Do you have the cpu? Or is it on fleabay, or the like? If it's on a site, for sale, tell the people that you're interested, but you won't buy unless they send you a picture that's a minimum of 1600x1200. If they say their digital camera or scanner won't "go that high", then you know they are liars. Good luck.

edit: The die sinking isn't something that happens very often, and would require massive amounts of heat. I would guess that it's just the angle.

It looks like that because of the angle of the picture IMO.

However, like said before, I would ask for another picture to be sure.
