im sure plenty of people on here use whitening toothpaste.... and im hoping some of you have encountered the same thing i have....

well, heres the story, and the question.

i recently started using the listerine whitening mouthwash, combined with aquafresh whitening toothpaste twice a day. ive noticed that with those two things combined, ive been having a crapload of that nasty white film around my gums in the morning when i wake up, and during the morning after brushing.

now i know the film is normal, cause that is the toothpaste whitening side effect, but this listerine stuff must REALLY work because it leaves a crapload of that stuff around my gums.

have any of you guys encountered this?

also... wtf IS IT?

I'm afraid to say this here but I get that same filmy coating in my mouth after using similar products. It must be a by product of one of the components in the toothpaste because I get it whether or not I use my mouthwash.

Every time it happens I wonder, but when I have to investigate I've already got rid of it. It is gross though.

yeah... if you dont eat or drink anything in the morning after brushing, you really notice it. and i think its nasty... but at least i know the $7 listerine mouthwash is doing its thing, that stuff creates a lot of that film....and my teeth are definitely whiter after a week of using it.

A hot cup of coffee melts the film for me. That's why it's gone before I have a chance to investigate (I forget about it until the next time I brush).

well, this morning i skipped breakfast, so i had a good hour of nothing to eat or drink, and then i went to take a drink.... and ... yeah. mass film.

so i dug my finger around my gums and the film just came off my teeth/gums, was gross. everytime i get this crap, i always think of soup that sits around, and has that nasty film cause it sat out and dried on the top. nastay.

Yeah, that's a good comparison, the grease sludge that congeals on the top of soup when it gets cold. yucky

doesn't drinking coffee stain your teeth in the first place?

I just started at 35 so there are no coffee stains yet. Soda, yes. And batmang is right, that's why we use the whitening stuff. :)

mega is right, i started using whitening products when i noticed my teeth getting stained due to drinking soda and coffee. the earlier products worked, but took a while to kick in, currently the products work MUCH faster and you get that nasty white film as a result. i think what the film is, is the whitening stuff that attatches to your teeth, you can feel it their after you brush. then it does its whitening thing and leaves a filmy turd as waste.

but after using just the whitening listering along with whitening tooth paste, for a week, my teeth have whitened quite a bit, it really works.

Wouldn't it be better to get some toothpaste that actually cleans your teeth rather than coating them in white crap?

Oh, I thought layers of skin on the inside of my mouth were coming off. So I stopped using it.
