Depends on how the group you are doing the exchange with interprets white elephant... as in, a $20 gift that anyone would be happy with, or a gag gift.

If it's a $20... you could go to walmart (ughh) and look around. They have all sorts of things on sale for just under $20..

That, or if you know your group really well you could get like, a car visor CD holder and a CD that most of them would like. A popular gift last year was a pretzel making kit from Auntie Annies in the mall and small set of gourmet sauces to use with it. A board game is always a good last-minute idea.

The best thing to do is to think of something that they everybody has a need for, or an item that would provide some sort of entertainment.

You'll do better of thinking of a gift if you stop thinking of one item to get, and think of maybe 2-4 smaller items to bundle.

I want to find a good gag gift, since I don't have any junk laying around my house. I however don't need to get anyone anything that is functional...

I work at the Auntie Annes Pretzel place. Pretzel kits could be a nice present, as long as the person you are giving it to actually decides to bake it. Not too expensive, $10.95.

But I'm sure there are better gifts than that.

Then you need just just go to a dollar store with like, 5 bucks. A wooly willy 'game', a toiler plunger, a pack of green army men, some random porcelin object and a fly swater never fails.

I was just talking to my boss' wife about this - she suggested wine/champaigne + 2 nice glasses, gift certificate, basket of Christmas desserts, candles, that's about all I can think of

I'd suggest a used condom, but wrapping a balloon animal formed from expired Hot Deal condoms just does not have the same effect.

There are a few different definitions of it..

1) random gift exchange... you don't know who is going to get what (but there are rules involved)
2) same thing... using junk...
3) same thing... gag gifts.

Anonymous gift exchange, usually popular at office parties. You bring in a wrapped unisex gift. Whenever they exchange gifts they just hand them out to a random person and no one knows who the gift was from.

Damn, there's some stupid stuff in there.

**EDIT: This would go over real well at an office party. As long as nobody knew who gave it :p

hahaha... thats funny. However it might not go over well exchanging with my grandmother, aunts and uncles. :)
