White collar crimes, should more appropriate sentences be applied?

If you really think about it, the white collar crimes are most damaging to society and the world as a whole. Why aren't these criminals prosecuted and handed their appropriate sentences?

Take someone robbing a bank for instance, they may or may not use a weapon, and in the process someone may die (in the extreme cases) and the perpetrators would be given the book. That warrants long prison terms and in the extreme cases, death sentences. White collar crimes, or fraud affect more people as a whole, as we've recently seen and the collateral damages are far worse.

Isn't it time someone revise the laws so these crooks get what's coming to them? And I'm not talking about an accidental sky trip deaths, or hunting accidents either, but proper court trials and hard sentences. Non of this "Congressional hearing" or "Federal probes" bullshits, just take the ones responsible and put them all on trial.

 P&N?

That would be optimal but the fact is that alot of these people are rich enough to circumvent the justice system, we are a country ruled by a monetary system not by a government. Greed and corruption make the country go 'round!

The punishment should match the crime. There is no excuse for a death penalty for white collar crimes, especially tax evasion which I do not believe is unethical.

Those being punished should simply be required to repay what was lost until they are absolutely penniless.

This topic reminds me of a joke I read somewhere, it's about whether cannibalism ought to be taken as the grounds for leniency in murders since it's less wasteful.

yeah, this is pretty much understood by any rational person. Unfortunately, the rational ones are not those who make the laws, run the government, and build the prisons. Sure, it's perfectly reasonable that carrying an ounce of green will land you 20 years in prison whereas embezzling millions of your employees' retirement funds nets you 2 months probation and a "shame on you."

This is how things work, you know?

Sounds like a great idea! Steal $100 million from a large company, give it to your parents, get caught, and since you don't have any money yourself anymore don't be punished at all and get most of the money back from your parents after the trial!

How about taking all their money and possessions, and some prison time where they get a whopping $5000 a year to repay the rest of the money, and once a week getting anally raped by a horse.

And if they gave money to their family and they refuse to give it back public stoning for them.

I starting to wonder who JMapleton was before he was banned.

I agree with you, but good luck getting any meaningful change in the laws. The folks that make the laws have the same color collar as the crooks. They feel they're above the law and they've got the resources to make it a reality.

In the case of Madoff, he's guilty and everyone knows it. There should be no trial. He should be torn to pieces in the village square by 4 oxen tied to each of his 4 limbs.

You don't believe that taking advantage of the services provided by taxes while illegally avoiding their payment is unethical, not to mention slimy as hell?

Don't get me wrong, I hate paying taxes, but if I'm going to enjoy paved roads, police and fire department protection, public parks, bike trails, health services, and transportation, and protection from foreign invasion, then you bet I'll pay my portion.
