White "Blips" during DVD / Divx playback on a Voodoo 3 (TV out)...

Hello Everyone,
I've got a question that I hope SOMEONE can help with. I have a Pentium 3 800, Voodoo 3 3000 AGP w/TV out, a Panasonic SR-8586-B 12/48X DVDROM drive (Region-free firmware), a Sony CRX-100E 4x/2x/24x CDRW (latest firmware), Win2K Server OS, etc... I get these little intermittent white "blips" on my 32" WEGA when I am using the TV out on my Voodoo to watch movies (DVD OR Divx) on my TV. I'm thinking it's the Video Card (because it only occurs when I'm using TV Out to my WEGA, not on my monitor), namely the video-out. Can anyone confirm this? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Also, would purchasing a decoder card help in this situation? The blips are only intermittent but fairly bothersome...

By the way, when I'm playing movies on my WEGA via TVOUT, I'm pretty disappointed in the quality (I'm pretty sure this is because of the lo-res tv-out). So, my last question is would I get better results (video quality wise and smooth playback) with a decoder card?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!

<< THANK YOU ALL FOR NOTHING IN ADVANCE... >>

That's not nice, but I'll try to help you anyway ;)

Often times, little white blips are the result of interference from electric motors. Are there any appliances with motors nearby or on the same circuit as the computer, and do the blips coincide with times the appliance is operating?

Since the white blips are only on TV-out, not the monitor, another guess is that you might have a bad connection or cable between the TV-out jack and the WEGA. It could also be electrical interference somewhere in the chain - try removing/reseating the video card, try a different cable and/or disconnect/clean/reconnect the cable you are using. Try S-video instead of composite or vice-versa. What playback software are you using? Perhaps try a different one or get DVD Genie to tweak what you have.

DVD's native resolution is 720x540, so 800x600 TV-out resolution is more than adequate. However, the TV-out on the Voodoo cards is notorious for being sub-par, but it should be OK (but not stellar) for DVD's. (Before you go nuts, the other thread was about watching on a monitor)

Please post if any of this stuff helped or not.

You hit the nail right on the head! As a Sony Tech, and an owner of several Sony's, I can say with a 98% chance that the problem is in the connections on your set. My 53" and V3 did the same thing. This is a common problem with Sony.

In other thread ""Why is my "good enough" voodoo 3 3000 giving me these damn white artifacts that intermittently appear on my TV (TV-OUT with s-video to RCA adapter into the RCA-in on my 32" WEGA)""

Why are you using the adaptor to go to composite video? Use s-video if possible, but that won't correct your problem if you did.

Any way, disconnect everything from the TV, including your antenna or cable, and try the V3 from the PC to the TV only. Usual culprit will be a VCR or cable box, or other thing connected to the TV that's messing you up. This method has worked in the 2 dozen or so times I've tried it with customers. And, it is the fault of the TV, not the other stuff, but what can you do?
