Get some rest, don't listen to any loud sounds/noises, and hope it isn't permanent damage!

Too late...It IS permanent.
Keep at it and your favorite words will be huh, say that again please.

I am 46 years old, I went to a Yngwie Malmstein concert about 20 years ago- it was painfully loud- I actually rolled up small pieces of my ticket and wadded them in my ears- I left halfway through the show- (only concert I ever walked out on)- I swear the guy running the board MUST have been deaf, cause the mix was so friggin loud AND distorted........

Ears have been ringing ever since- I cannot sleep in a perfectly quiet room- need white noise to drown out the ringing.

QFT

i live right in the city so no problem with perfectly silent room 🙂

I've experienced that a few times, it's a good sign you were listening to music too loud. I've had this happen once after a concert, the rest just being an idiot listening to my stuff. It's honestly enjoyable to fill a room with so much sound, but it's horrible for your hearing 🙁

Whistling in your ears?

Try staying out of the wind!

Sorry could not resist - I am a capacitor.

Ok, yeah so you have ringing. Probably should not be giving the number out to your head. It's real hard to get an unlisted head in the U.S. after 9/11. 😛

Hey at least reading this does not burden your damaged hearing. Lesson learned. If you insist on visiting these places either reduce the time you are there OR purchase a set of ear plugs and USE them.

Don't press your luck or one day it won't. If you get ringing afterward you screwed up and should have used some kind of hearing protection. A spit-on wad of napkin does a very good job.

For a couple of years I didn't wear earplugs, my musiscian friends all eventually started to, and so did I. I have no issue with putting earplugs in if the show is to loud.

Of course you were just at a dance club, so I would say they probably just had it turned up way to loud, and stay away from the speakers next time you go.

That ringing is a sign of permanent damage. Enjoy it while it lasts, you'll never hear that frequency again.

Exact quote from Children of Men. 😛

First concert I ever saw was Van Halen in 1982. 3rd row aisle right in front of Eddie.

Couldn't really hear for 3 days, and my ears are ringing right now. Of course, going to a ton of other concerts didn't help, but that one was the on that I could really feel the damage.

I went to Ozzfest in 2004, and when one of the scrub bands were playing on the main stage during the day, we were standing on the front row right in front of the wall of speakers. I had ear plugs in, and nobody around me did.

Literally, my ****** was blowing and there was a breeze from the speaker stack. Had to be some deaf folks that left that joint.

At the end of the night, my ears were ringing a little, even though I had plugs in.

The last time I had ringing in my ears was after this past March's Dropkick Murphys show at the HOB (in Chicago). The room wasn't that big and I was about 15 to 20ft away from one set of speakers; the ringing lasted about a day and a half and has pushed me to wear earplugs for the next show that I go to.

How much do earplugs help, really? I mean am I totally safe if I stay away from the speakers and wear them?

They usually have different ratings. Some claim to cut anywhere between 20 and 80 decibels and IIRC from the little pamphlet that was always with my CD players' packaging, 80 decibels is about the loudness of a subway train.

That could be expected even if you were wearing plugs because they can only cut so much sound out. Standing in front of the speakers and wearing earplugs could still be loud enough to damage your hearing because plugs can only cut so many decibels off the top.

In terms of protecting your ears, a lot, since it just stops the sound waves from reaching those parts of the ear!
