All radar detectors are essentially equivalent, however the best ones have better automatic lock out and ignore false positives. Since the auto lock out feature is patented, you won't be able to get it in this detector.

I have no idea what the price of this one is but it will probably work fine, just be prepared for lots of false alarms. You'll get better at recognizing them.
