Whisper PSU vs QuietPC PSU - can you hear the diff?

I'm looking for other people who are anal err... picky about the noise their computer makes. The whisper PSU I have now is loud. I have a friend over in the UK who can bring me back a quietpc power supply (and save me $25 on shipping costs) when he returns in just a couple weeks. I've already spent enough money on getting things quiet (Taisol CGK760 with custom 80mm fandapter and Panaflo L1A powering it, multiple L1As run at 7V, hard drive in a SilentDrive enclosure, etc) that it's very tempting for me to say, might as well buy it since I've spent so much time and money already.

Any sound purist (no, if you can't/couldn't hear your Whisper PSU then I don't want to hear from you) who's had them both and can tell me the difference?

Well I haven't had both.

However, I have invested a lot of money into silencing my computer. First step was watercooling.. pump makes a quiet noise and the water is kind of soothing in the resoivoir..

Second step was the 120mm L1a and 2 80mm L1a's.. the 80's are at 7v and the 120 is on a rheostat to where i can't hear it but provides cooling to the radiator.

Third step was (and took awhile) my hard drive. Being all SCSI like I am i had an old loud hot barracuda. Well, the 36 gig Fujitsu I got, although expensive, is nice and quiet.

And more importantly what you're interested in. I purchased the whisper thinking it's all quiet. Well, it wasn't. Infact, it was loud. sure the exhaust has temp control but the 92mm intake is still loud. I replaced it with a panaflo thinking that would help. Still annoying. So, I just left it unplugged and use the exhaust only. Might shorten it to 100,000 hours instead of 200. But who cares? :) My system is nice and quiet now. Probably be even quieter if I had an L1a exhausting the PSU but it's quiet enough for me..

hrm.. dunno if it's a good idea to unplug the ps fan.. it also helps keep the ps cool.. may shorten it MORE than you'd expect.. but i dunno, i personally wouldn't do it ;)

Where'd you happen to get the L1a's ?

considering it's a high quality PSU and most others run off a single exhaust fan as oppose to the intake and exhaust i'm not too worried..

and L1A's are available at www.teamawe.com and www.caseetc.com.. i think plycon.com too
