Ok so what, in everyones opinion, is the best PCI-based add-in SATA controller card?

Obviously the cheaper the better, but I wanna hear all opinions.

Anything with Silicon Image logic should be fine. Check under LSI on newegg and under Syba at dealsonic.com

the 3ware escalade cards are hard to beat, though one time I setup some WD drives with them and the performance was slow, it might have been a firmware issue.

What operating systems do you plan to use?

Anything with the Silicon Image chip seems to be highly favored these days.

However, I am using the Promise SATA150TX4 without any debiliatating problems. Of course, I think a 66MHz PCI bus helps a little as well. 🙂 My current obstacle is finding a PATA-to-SATA adapter that will actually work with this controller. Koutech and HighPoint converters have failed to get my last (of 4) hard drives over to SATA. Currently running all flavors of Windows, along with Gentoo and FreeBSD.

newegg has started carrying some Acard controllers/adapters but I don't see the interesting ones, PATA to SATA and IDE to SCSI. They have the Abit Serillel adapter. http://www.dealsonic.com has the Syba SI-3112 for about $26. shipped.
