This is harder than the High-Def TV decision-process of last Spring/Summer...

My MB is dead and at Asus...The Asus/RMA process I've been told here takes 3-4 weeks, so...I've had too much time to read/consider different options if I have to get a new MB...(see "sig")...(I will OC...)

If I stay w/ a P45/775 MB, it is because:
*Performance is still excellent NOW (son & I are gamers) ...
*Price difference is significant...already have E8400 cpu, RAM, cooler, and XP-Pro
Considering these:
*Asus P5Q-D (DDR2)
*Asus Formula Maximus II (DDR2)
*Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6 (DDR2)(XBit Labs says this is the best OC'ing 775 MB...)
*Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
*Biostar T Power I45

If I go with X58/i7 MB...
*a lot more money, (new cpu, new RAM, new cooler, new Vista 64 bit OS...) for what, 15-
20% more performance?
*it would be fun, though...
*if I go this route, then these are the MB's I'm considering...

What do you think?

The ASUS P6T6 WS revolution looked enticing, but it has some bios issues not resolved yet I found out, so I have decided to look at other boards for my next rig instead. Would suggest the EVGA board or the Gigabyte UD5. one of the biggest issues I found with the Revolution is the overvolting by .2 V on the vcore.

Don't you think, however, that will get taken care of in a new Bios revision? It is a quite new MB...

The Giga UD5 I'll check out now...

OK, the Gigabyte UD5 is X58...

What about me sticking w/ P45's, as I listed above what 775 MB's I'm interested in....

You know I saw a release today for a forthcoming msi eclipse plus with the nf200 chipset. What does this mean? I means that your pci-e slots will all run at 16x because the nf200 chipset brings 64 pci-e lanes instead of the x58's 32. I want to run pci-e cards like my xonar d2x but I don't want to lose bandwidth because the controller has to share lanes with another card. With the new mb's coming out soon you won't have to. Just something to consider when moving to core i7 as I'll be doing it later this year myself.

I also have a dead mb at asus, my striker II formula and I'm not happy with how slow they are to issue you an rma number. At the moment I'm using an evga 780i ftw which is ok but I liked my s2f better as it has more features. I hope they don't try to play a game with me and ship the same old dead mb back to me like they've done to others.

That nf200...is for i7 1366 cpu's, correct?

I've pretty much decided to stick w/ P45/775 MB this time(money issue)...as I said, I already have the cpu-E8400. So, I'm trying to decide which 775 MB... the more I research/read, the tougher the decision....lots of good 775 MB's out there...so, the ones I listed above, and these as well:
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6
" -EP45-Extreme
" -EP45-UD3P
Asus P5Q-D
Biostar T-Power I45

What do you know about these MB's...and what would you get? My son and I are gamers and will OC...

Well in that instance the nf200 is paired to the x58 socket 1366 but it's not limited as it's also used in the nvidia 700 series mb's as well.

Money an issue, so going P45...prob the Giga UD3P or DQ6, using the E8400 I already have, getting 8 gig new mem, maybe a VRaptor 300gig HD, and Vista64...possibly use same vid card for a while, then to the GTX280...

Actually w/ our old rig in "sig", we were getting good frame rates in COD-MW and WAW... and w/ good cable line, we were "fast" on "multi-player" servers...running game at high settings at 1600x1200 ...
