The power went off while I was flashing the bios on my ECS K7-S5A. Now it wouldn't post. Any sugguestion beside RMA.

wow, nice timing 🙂

you could get a new bios, but at probably ~25-30$, you may want to get a new board. you may have fried it in the outtage.

Hope this helps you. This is a direct quote from the K7S5A FAQ at OClworkbench The best place for info and help on the K7S5A.

<< 14. I flashed the BIOS and now my board is dead, what can I do?

Check to see if the floppy drive light goes on when you power up. If it does, it's your lucky day, there's a 95% chance you can fix it. Follow these instructions:

In another computer, format a floppy disk under DOS/Windows 9x/ME. Don't use Windows 2K/XP or the quick format option.
Copy a BIOS .rom file to the floppy. Don't copy any extra files.
Rename the file AMIBOOT.ROM.
Double check the floppy is good by running Scandisk or Norton Disk Doctor.
Put the floppy in your computer and turn it on.
Wait while the floppy is being read.
Wait until you hear 4 beeps (usually <1 min, 5 min at most).
Turn off and on again.
If this doesn't work, try downloading a different BIOS version .rom file and repeat the process.

Thanks slapstick, my floppy does go on when I turn on the computer. Maybe it's my lucky day. I'll post the result. Now when do I go to find a Win 98 or Win Me machine.

Holy mutha it does work. First it didn't work with the lastest bios rom so I try a different bios. Thanks guys.

Glad it worked, nothing worse than a bad BIOS flash. Do check out OCWorkbench, they have an excellent FQA on setting up, trouble shooting and tweaking the K7S5a, (along with a few other boards.)

I feel secure with my dual BIOS 😀

and... ECS K7S5A smelled real bad after I cooked it my microwave.

it's not a dual bios - it's called AMI boot block

i did the same thing as well and luckily recovered it after trying 2 or 3 different bioses...often, only the manufacturer bioses work, not the ocworkbench ones.

but anyway, i remember sh1tting my pants after i did it...
