While cars that drive on water are not new or common...

Rubycon

Madame President
story here

Giljam tingles at the idea of anglers taking their cars out on lakes for a day of fishing; of rush-hour commuters bypassing congestion by taking a river as an alternate route; of water-skiers bouncing along in the wake of a speedboat with four wheels.

:Q

As if frantic jet skiiers and drunk power/sail boat operators weren't enough of a hazard. It's bad in the Bahamas. I could stay up all night discussing stories of near collisions. It's actually quite scary. Doesn't matter who you are - playing chicken with 93,000 tons of ship = Darwin award. It's a mathematical certainty.

It *IS* a neat idea from the mechanical standpoint though. 🙂

i wouldn't worry to much, i'm sure salt water would pwn that thing after 2 weeks, thats if it manged to get a mile from the dock without hitting a wave the wrong way.

That's the other issue - cars leak stuff. That's an environmental nightmare.

Yeah, and ships don't?😛

Would you want to swim in the waters of your average port?

Depends on the port. 😛

I wouldn't want to swim in most Ports,
too much chance of getting run over/killed by a boat,
that didn't see a swimmer.

On our private island we have an area roped off where the traffic (tenders) go back and forth to the ship. Still doesn't stop swimmers and snorklers from crossing the line though. Water there (Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas) is crystal clear and great for snorkling. 🙂
