I am currently using iphone 1 on tmobile network sicne iphone launch so I have been noticing the battery is slowly dying. Yesterday I saw dell is selling an unlocked nokia xpressmusic 5800 for 189 so I jumped onto the deal thinking it might be a good replacement for iphone and in case I change my mine I can sell it on ebay for slight profit.

I have read spec and comparison between the iphone and 5800, it always end up saying one do something better than other. I am wondering if anyone here had owned both an iphone and a xpressmusic unit to see which is better?

ive used the expressmusic and the iphone and in terms of the user friendliness and polish, the iphone beats it hands down. however, i am also not a fan of symbian and their touchscreen versions of it - i simply cant stand them.

iPhone Symbian s40/s60 and the touchscreen version are all real bad. I know it's a preference thing, but I don't see how anyone could think Sybians OS is even in the same league as Apples. Going from an iPhone to an Xpressmusic would be a huge step down.

ok, what would be a good replacement for an iphone then? Please don't say like Iphone 3g or 3gs since i am on t-mobile and I don;t want to pay like 400-500 for a new phone. I don't intend to pay 20 extra per month for 3g access, I am fine with my tzone internet on iphone.

Well by replacement what do you mean? What do you want to do with the phone? There is no iPhone replacement for Tmobile.

The Nexus One looks like it'll be unveiled on January 5th and it'll be exclusive to t-mobile. Otherwise, the myTouch 3g is pretty slick, in my opinion and is pretty much on par, hardware-wise, with the 1st gen iphone. The Samsung Behold II is another option, as is the HTC Touch Pro 2.

ok let be simple, I am just looking for phone with like iphone like touch screen, good music player, decent camera, some kind of map feature, tzoneable internet, wifi. Any good recommendation? Normal people would say, "get a newer iphone" but I want to hear that the expert here on anandtech has to say.

As a hardcore S60 user, I say iPhone. With teh 2G, you lose 3G, but so what? 90% of the iPhone appeal is the UI and the apps. 2G is a small factor. You see people drooling over the Nexus One although it doesn't work on their 3G bands. So a good phone is more than a fast network.

I say iPhone. I wouldn't mind a 5800 though.

There is no easy replacement for you if you have T-mobile. The only iphone equivilent that you can get right now for T-mobile is the Touch pro2 from HTC. It's a windows mobile 6.1 phone, so it has lots of configurability and the features you want. However, it's a 350 dollar phone if you get it from ebay. It's 500 if you buy it from T-mobile. If you get the lower subsidized price, you will have to get a diffent data plan not the t-zones.

So. The answer to your question is no, there is nothing. You must give up one of these two things, features or price. You can get the TP2 but it will cost you. You could get an old 'wing' or 'shadow' and use it with tzones, but it won't be as powerful.

Both Touch Pro 2 and Behold II can be had at ebay for around 300 and they are suppose to be superior to the xpress music 5800 and comparable to iphone? Better yet. at $200-300, which is the best phone that I can find?
