I have the Intel Bad Axe 2 mobo, and the Intel E6700 processor. I'm looking to get the CNPS9500 cooler. The regular version comes with a FanMate, while the AT version is controlled by the mobo. I'm interested in pros and cons of one versus the other.

I vote one of thise huge HSes where you can PICK YOUR FAN and hook it up to a fan controller rather than have a company like Zalman pick your fan and you have to pick voltages...

Zalman` latest coolers don't really compare to others kind of a disappointment if you ask me.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I feel compelled to point out that my 9500 didn't really make any improvement over the stock cooler from AMD, at least in my case. (like 1 degree at idle, maybe 3 at load). If I had it to do over, I'd try out one of the other newer coolers.

I'm with the rest of the guys. Zalman coolers are pretty decent, and the 9500 is one of their best, but for the price it's not worth it.

If you're concerned about noise, I'd look into a scythe infinity/ninja. If you want extreme cooling, I'd look into the thermalright U-120.

Okay, given my mobo and processor, what do you all reccomend as an alternative to the Zalman? I'm inteested in something that cools at least as good as the Zalman, and that is as quiet as possible.

Any heatsink that incorperates heat pipes and utilises a 120mm fan, Arctic Cooling is the exeption to the rule.

I use the 7700Cu and it works great, about 5-10F difference on my 3700+ compared to stock cooling.

I agree.... I have this cooler installed on ALL of my systems, from socket 478, 754, 939 and 775. Has ALWAYS dropped temps in a big way for me, but again depending on your setup YMMV..... make sure to install the fan controller and you'll be good to go...

I recommend the Scythe Mine, I was looking at the CNP9500 for a while, but the Mine was a lot cheaper and had similar performance.

My e6400@3.2ghz with a scythe mine with a 120mm fan runs at around 40c at idle and 50c at load.
Personally i wouldnt bother with a zalman especially if you plan to overclock, they simply dont compare with any of the scythe/thermalright heatsinks.
