Hey All,
I've decided to pass on chancing a TBred-B from Newegg and spending a little more for the choice. Which of these stepping do you think will be the best overclocker???
XP1700+ (JIUHB:0310WPMW)
XP1700+ (JIUHB:0310XPMW)
XP1700+ (JIUHB:0310UPMW)
All at 1.5 V and priced at $80 Shipped from excaliberpc

or should I spend an extra $25 buck and get an XP2100?
XP2100+ Tbred B (AIUHB:0247)
XP2100+ Tbred B (AIUHB:0252)
XP2100+ Tbred B (AIUHB:0301)
XP2100+ Tbred B (AIUHB:0302)
Or do you know somewhere else to get hand picked chips for cheaper?

Which is supposedly the best overclocker? Or do you think I should take my chances purchasing a Retail Chip from newegg @ $65 bucks?
Let me know what you guys think? I am hoping to get the chip atleast up over 2 gigs.
Let me know
Thanks
Frank S

Umm... the link in the other post works and it answers your questions, it even addresses the same stepping codes you wanted to know about for the 1700+. 1700+s, 2100+s, and 2400+s usually overclock the same.

results all vary...

W's seem to be the best...

X's are hit or miss...

U's are okay...

What are you talking about the best NOW? The chips dont change

why don't you just get a XP2100+ from newegg? they are $88 shipped free and going to be t-bred B revision chips, or get the retail for $93 shipped free with a shitty HSF and 3 year warranty. i just got one on friday and i am running at XP2600 speed (12.5 x 166 = 2.08GHz) at 1.65V (bumped it as prime95 was giving an error at 1.6V). idle temp 36*C and full load is 40*C. this is on a decent air-cooled rig with an AX-7 heat sink and sunon fan.

my 1700+ DLT3C JIUHB0310WPMW has hit 2.5GHz(12.5x200)
not bad for a chip that cost me $57:D

JIUHB:0310XPMW

This is a 1.5v revision "B". I just got one that hits 2400MHz at 1.8v. A little too warm for me, I backed off to 2300MHz at 1.71v.

So that XP1700 is a solid chip and a favorite by ALL I can see. I am on the edge of just getting a Rev B XP2100 or the Excaliber PC chosen XP1700. Such a Hard choice when they are both around the same price. The Newegg Xp2100 is @ $85 Shipped, and the Excaliber XP1700 chosen stepping is around $80 shipped. Not a huge difference but the outcome may be.
What would you all do?
I am pushing the button tomorrow on one of them tomorrow regardless, let me know what you would do !!!
Thanks

SO If I were to go for one of those 2 chips. Do you think it is worth spending $80 for an XP1700 Shipped, or to get a random XP2100 Rev B from Newegg??

***ALSO***
Is it better to buy Retail versus OEM if you can afford it? Does that mean that they will give you a new chip if you cook it within 3 years? or does that have limitations as if you overclock and fry it you get squat?
Let me know
Frank S (PS- I am posting this exact end question in a new thread too- thanks to all who have helped me so much !)

Overclocking voids your warranty. However, if you simply overclock the FSB then there is generally no visible evidence of overclocking. On the other hand if your chip gets too hot and you scorch it and it turns all black and stuff they probably wont honor the warranty. If you do fry it they will give you an equally or better rated chip, but you won't be guaranteed a stepping and you obviously cant tell them you want a specific one to overclock better.

go for a 2100+. Or what you could do is go down to ur local frys (do u have one?). When you go up to the counter to buy ur core ask them to take out several of them so u can choose the best one. Then pick the best one. Pretty cool huh?

The 2100+ will hold it's value in the long run, and will probably overclock decent as well. Overclocking varies greatly even within a specific stepping, it's just that for some steppings the chance of getting a winner is greater than a chip from another stepping.

just buy both!

see which one does better....

okay...

i've tested out a total of 9 chips so far...

the best one i've gotten is a 0310upmw @ 2.4 ghz

2100+ .... 1700+ .... get whatever you want!

there are no guarantees with any steppings...

i think the only thing that is guaranteed is that you should hit over 2.0 ghz at the least with any of the tbreds... that's the only guarantee you have...

hitting 2.3 , 2.4 or even 2.5 is all luck of the draw...

Shimm you nailed it :) 2+Ghz is the starting point for a Tbred B, anything else is gravy. When you are talking 2.1 versus 2.4...come on, this chip is clocked at 1.4!!! Its a wonder chip!

My personal opinion is that get your most bang for the buck, get the cheapest 1700B and see what you can make it do.

I have one coming friday, can't wait......
What would be the best economy cooler to put on it? I mean, $20 plus fan range.
On a side note, built a basic box for my sister, a gigabyte 266 chip board, 1600 palomino, 512 samsung 2100, gf2 gts.
Her kids may come play on it. Maybe not.
Would it be a risk to stability to give it a 143 mhz overclock, if it passes 12 hours of prime?
I do not want to go reload windows or anything, but it would be nice for them to Think they had a 1800+ ;)
What do you experienced overclockers think?

Yes, too much is never enough. Some wise guy once said we would never need more than 640K too!
