I bought 3 and am using 1 in a PC -- and the one I opened was indeed a samsung.
PM me if you're interested in buying and tell me what you'd pay (+ shipping if you're not near tacoma wa)
The upc on the box is: 683728000851
with the letters: CDICD00085 above the barcode
It's a plain internal one, with a beige front
the serial# starts with: K05463CTB_____ (5 digits after the B)

The 616t and 616q *should* work. I believe the one in the box is a SD-616Q, since the one I opened is. FWIW, the one I opened is SD-616 model: Q, November 2002, firmware rev. F401, H/W: A.Originally posted by: 79Blazer

Any old Samsung drive will not work. It must be a 616t. And the firmware needs to be re-flashed. And some soldering needs to be done also. EDIT: Also. A modified (not made specifically for the xbox) Samsung drive WILL NOT read original (legal copy) discs.

i already have a chip and bigger HD in there. i guess i must have fubar the dvd drive when i tried to adjust the POT.
another question: when i boot with the chip off to the MS dash, i get an error that my xbox needs servicing. will a dead dvd drive trigger this error?

What is the error code in the upper left of the screen? (if at all)
