Edit *cough amheck cough*: I'm placing my order today. Noise and reliability are my greatest concerns, and I want to keep it below $300, but I'll add a Zalman cooler if I find the card to be too loud. I think I've narrowed the choice down to these four cards, listed in order of ascending price:

Powercolor Radeon X800 XL OEM: $283.00 shipped
Rosewill Radeon X800 XL Retail: . . $289.98 shipped
Sapphire Radeon X800 XL OEM: . . . $295.00 shipped
ATI Radeon X800 XL OEM: . . . . . . . . . $298.50 shipped <--- Poll winner, and so that's what I ordered. Thanks for picking the most expensive option, everyone ;)

Original Question:

The Rosewill X800 XL is about $10 cheaper than the ATI OEM card, but the two cards look identical. Are the boards made by the same manufacturer?

I have the Rosewill X800XL and it is a great card, not one bit of trouble. I am pretty positive that it is a rebadged Sapphire based card, which is ATi's OEM partner. The card I have is clocked to 430/540 sitting in my little fireball of a Shuttle SN25P.

So Sapphire makes ATI's cards? Now that you mention it, I think I've heard that before.

But if that's true, then why does Sapphire's X800 XL differ so much from the identical Rosewill and ATI cards?

Someone posted link to a shootout of the various X800 XL's yesterday, here is the link:
Hothardware. I have a Powercolor, and it runs great for me, I just wanted a card with dual DVI.

Didn't you already say you were ordering "today" on the first post last month? ;)

FWIW, I just got a retail BBA x800xl for $250 plus tax from CompUSA Business. Check out the FW deals forum for more info.

No, I said I was ordering soon, and that was only a couple weeks ago. I was waiting for the Sonata II, which made it to Newegg on Friday.

Fine, if you don't want to take the time to read the thread, that's your deal. I didn't go into the store, either.

Just read your post over FW.
Unfortunately, the coupon code for deal just expired.
If only I had seen your post sooner.
