Which x800 vanilla card or Sapphire x800Pro?

Finalizing build components and found 2 x800 cards I'm interested in. (ditching the 6600GT idea per an earlier thread)

If one is quieter than the other, it would get bonus points.

MSI RX800-TD128E $199

Asus RX800-TD128E $224 Dual DVI but I only use one LCD monitor now.

Of course, Gigabyte has a passive x800 card for $242...BUT....Sapphire has the Pro version (with fan) for about $245.

Is it worth $46 for the upgrade to Pro (with more RAM)? Not a big gamer but once in a while it's nice to frag some bad guys. Will be doing video editing, DVD burning (from Canon Optura400 MiniDV camcorder), photoshop work.

Are the fans loud on these puppies? I would pay a little extra for passive cooling...

Thanks for any thoughts you've got!

dude get the pro you wont regret it l have an asus pro [ l fried ocing ] and a sapphire pro which is oc ed to core 502 and mem 510 and you wont be dissapointed, epecially next year when you ccan still play without lag problems, also you can do a simple bios flash to the sapphire card if it has vivo [ yellow plug ] and turn it into an xt with 16 pipes instead of 12, lve done it works fine , dude ld go for the pro sapphire it gives you options................

Ignore me, didn't get enough sleep. =(

Anyone know if a 9800 Pro AGP can be flashed to a XT?

Pro all the way.

X800 sucks infront of the Pro. At < $ 250 its a bargain. If its vivo, ull get a free upgrade to XT PE.

Though sapphire cooler is one of the worst i know. I recommend that Pro + Zalman ZMHP80D if u need passive cooling. You'll see 10 Deg or more diff in temperatures but case ventillation is essential if ur going with the Passive ZALMAN.

x800 gives around 6800nu performance, how does it suck

Either way, the pro is a notch ahead of the vannila.

Sounds great, thanks for the tip!

Is this the sapphire board you're talking about? I see two on Newegg, one is the "Red Radeon" and the other is just Radeon.

Sapphire Red Radeon x800Pro

Sapphire Radeon x800Pro

Looks like both have Vivo....what's the difference with the "red" models? I found OpenGL 1.5 support vs OpenGL 2.0 support. Isn't this just a driver difference?

Thanks!

Don't bet on unlocking the pipes of the PCI-E version, I believe they have the extra pipelines physically cut so the only way to enable them is by hard modding.

Looks like just an odd naming difference, and one is OEM the other retail.
OGL support will really be the same for both. It's just a choice of OEM or Retail really.
