I would rather be...

  • A selfish prick to everyone else but personally happy

  • A really nice person to everyone else but personally miserable

I would choose to be a really nice person to everyone but HAL9000 which I'd be a complete prick to which will in turn make me pretty happy and not miserable at all.

I'd be a prick. I pretty much keep to myself, so the ramifications of that choice would be fairly limited.

No, of course not. But I also don't think most people suffer from neurological disorders or chemical imbalances in the brain.

Completely agree there, same with excessive ADD/ADHD shit. It's called eat a halfway decent diet, get exercise, experience pain and how to cope with it. Addiction is definitely a real problem, but I do not personally believe it should be considered a medical disease in the true sense of the word.

Stress seems to be more persistent in first world modern society. The third world has it's own set of problems which induce primal stress, but in either case, stress can make people crazy.

I implied that by being selfish and a prick as other people see it your existence negatively effects those people... That's the point I was making.

Other people don't need me to go out and make them happy. If I'm an asshole they can still be happy, but by your poll I'd be happy. Win/win.

You failed to box us in with an ultimatum by the choice of words, even if that was your intent. I reject the implied connotation between my personality and their happiness.

You guys don't think there are neurological disorders or chemical imbalances in the brain?! WTF?! I have bipolar disorder, you are wrong.

It's like saying "I don't believe in diabetes, never had it so..." Also, things like Parkinson's are neurological are you saying that Parkinson's and Alzheimer's don't exist?

Having been an extreme version of number 2 at one point, I'll take number one any day. But the best course is balance. It's perfectly possible to give to others while not being abused and maintaining personal happiness.
