Which would you pick?

What would you do?
I have had the same case going on 6 years. I decided to upgrade it and then decided to upgrade a few more things. Here is where I am at.

As of right now I have a c2d e6550 that runs at 3.2, but can hit 3.4 on air. I have a 4850 and it seems to do just fine for what I play. I usually upgrade every two years and that is about now. In 2 weeks I have a thousand dollars that will be going into my PC, one of the following 2 ways.

1.) Buy a s775 quad, 2 HD for raid and short stroke the one I have now or maybe 1 ssd and one regular. A new GPU when Nvidia releases Fermi, probably a 57/58xx . 1 32" or higher LCD. Maybe a water cooling setup, depending on how much is left. CPU would be purchased used, saving money and getting a known OC'r

or

2.) Sell off most of what I have, combine with thousand and start new. I would probably be going with an i5 and the MSI P55-GD65 or a i920/1366. Most all of the parts would be purchased new.

I really like option one as what I have now is not that bad. I would like to go to quad core though. I am just not sure I want to do a whole new build. I do want to keep whatever I get for the next 2-3 years. I keep changing my mind, back and forth. I do have a Microcenter within an hour and the deals are hard to ignore.

Option 1? or Option 2?

I'm in a similar boat, I decided that I'm going with a hybrid new i7 machine.
Keeping my vid card, chassis, monitor, swapping in new mobo/cpu/ram/cooler/main HD.

My rig:
i7 920 - $199
Asrock mobo (open box newegg) - $118
RAM - $170 I think?
Cooler - $60
Seagate 7200.12 - $60

Total: $607 (ish)

I'll upgrade my vid card when Diablo3 comes out I think, and get an SSD when I find a compelling deal on one.

Just my $.02 :D

I would need to add a PSU to that and that is where I am also. The mother board I am looking at for 1366 is around 200 dollars. If I could get 2 more years out of s775 it would be so much easier.

Okay so here is what I am looking at. Will buy the CPU at Micro Center, will buy the board either used or find the best deal. I want as black as a board as I can get, without any reds. I will just need to add a vid card, but will wait to see what Nvidia does.

Hi, that looks like a solid build and no problems if you like the brands and it makes you happy but there is 1 problem.

Why do you want 2 IDE hdd's instead of SATA?

Second, I hear that board runs quite hot too. Might wanna checkout gigabyte x58a-ud3r. Im waiting and home to receive myne today. I was deciding between those 2 aswell and just wnet with the gigabyte because it has awesome features for adding hardware later. USB3.0 and SATA III.

That RAM is probably the best bang for the buck 6gb kit. I couldt find it in Canada so wnet with the NQ series.

THat is a excellent choice for PSU. It is a seasonic build. DO you really need 750w? might wanna drop to 650w or 550w. But if price isnt much of a difference I guess get the one that allows you to add stuff in the future.

And I turned my planned short post to a Long one.

C'mon UPS, bring in my parts so I can build :)

I thought I had linked the SATA drive. Thanks! As far as the boards go, my last 5 have been DFI, all the way back to socket A. I wanted to try something else this time and like you came down to the EVGA vs the gigabyte x58a-ud3r. The boards layout looks great and the blue would work. It might come down to the best deal I find. I really like the EVGA dark PCB though and it was the deciding factor between the two. From what I have read, it seems to be a solid board. My case has great airflow so it should be good on heat.
