Here are two build lists, one Intel based and one AMD based.

The shared components are:

Hec Blitz case -5 fans, blue led, mounted: 2 top, 1 front, 1 rear, and 1 bottom.
Hec XPower780 PS -600W 780W peak.
LG DVD burner.
Really old Hitachi 160GB HDD ATA.(temporary)

Intel Build:

1 - ASUS P8P67 PRO (REV 3.1) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Motherboard.
2 - EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 for SLI.
1 - Intel Core i5-2500 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 95W Quad CPU.
2 - Patriot Gamer 2 Series 8GB(2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 RAM.(16GB total)
1 - Patriot Pyro 2.5" 60GB SATA III SSD. (one for now but will get another one for RAID 0)
Windows 7 64bit home premium.

AMD Build:

1 - ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 870 SATA 6GB/s HSB 3.0 ATX Motherboard.
1 - XFX HD Radeon 6950 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 GPU.
1 - AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo Socket AM3 125W Six-core CPU.
2 - Patriot Viper Xtreme Series, Division 2 Edition 8GB(2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600.(16GB total)
1 - Patriot Pyro 2.5" 60GB SATA III SSD. (one for now but will get another one for RAID 0)
Windows 7 64bit home premium.

These are upgrades for gaming mostly. Total price for components is about $800 AMD $900 Intel. Any feedback is welcome and appreciated! Thanks J.:D

I would build Intel definitely, an i5 sweeps the floor with AMD CPUs in gaming.

But not the parts you picked.

- You'll want the 2500K over 2500 just so you can OC it if/when needed/wanted.
- Also you'll want Z68 chipset instead of P67
- 8GB RAM is enough.
- Going SLI on 550 Ti is a bad idea, it's not a very good card; and in general you'll want one strong GPU rather than two weak ones, e.g. 6950 2GB. This would also mean you wouldn't need a SLI motherboard.
- SSD RAID doesn't make much sense because you lose TRIM support

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Gaming - SWTOR mostly and some flight games arcade/sim.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

Budget not much of a concern just what my wife will let me get away with. LOL

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

Always like Intel but AMD is so much cheaper soo...

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

Case Hec Blitz, Power supply Hec 780W(600W constant)

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

PC's are extremely personnel projects but I have looked around not a noob here, hehe.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Yes I overclock enough to stay on air. I know I'm weird, just buy a AFM cooler already, ya I know.

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.

1080P etc.

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?

When I get the Wife's permission!:'(

Not really, price/performance is quite similar up until Intel i5 which is miles ahead of similarly priced AMD in most tasks, including gaming.

I expect SWTOR like other MMOs is not going to be very harsh on the GPU but simulating the online world will probably need a strong CPU. Not sure about flight sims.

Asrock Z68 Pro3 $100
i5-2500K $225 ($180 in microcenter if you have one nearby)
CM 212 Evo $35 -> overclock to 4.0-4.5ghz, or leave out for now and buy when you need or want to OC
8GB DDR3 $45 ($30 AR)
XFX 6870 1GB $170 ($150 AR) or XFX 6950 2GB $275 ($245 AR).
Crucial M4 64GB $114 or 128GB $210

Let me know how u like that

I agree with this, though I would add an XFX 650W PSU for $60. HEC PSUs are pretty much the bottom of the barrel and you don't want to be feeding dirty power to your new rig.
