Which would be faster on low end laptop? XP or 2000?

Wow, haven't seen that much ram in that old of a system in...well, ever.
2K will run alot better than XP on it, just be careful about drivers (or the lack thereof).

Most will work, but not all. Technically, it's all NT based, but some interact differently.

Windows XP would work just as good as 2k, providing you have the HD space.
(win2k install is roughly 1 gig, winXP is roughly 1.6 gig)

Currently using it on PII 366 with 256mb ram (10 gig drive) and it works as well as when 2k was on it.
(this coming from a normally staunch win2k supporter)

Just turn off any unneeded services and you will be fine.

I put XP on a PII400 MHz laptop with 128MB RAM Works fine for me...had to turn off all the eye candy though.

I would use WinXP with all visual themes turned off and disable all the useless services. It works very well in a couple (500Mhz) of slow machines at work.

If you disable all the fancy features in XP, they'll probably both run about the same. So you might as well just use XP then.

I had a PII 300 with 192 MB RAM (Dell LAtitude CS).

Win 2k ran fine on it till I installed Slackware on it . I wouldnt even dream on installing WinXP on a system that has less than 600 MhZ processor. My opinion, of course

Well I decided to give Windows XP pro a try (got it cheap). With all the visual effects turned off, and a bunch of un-needed services turned off, it appears to run just about the same as W2k to me. Perfectly fine for web surfing, and it even plays DIVX movies. DVD decoding is probably out without a decoder card however.

If u turn off visual effects, that systems can easily handle XP.
