The basic question is, which is the fastest chip? In a mostly single process environment (i.e. playing a game) the answer is the A64 3500+. With gaming, however, choosing a good video card is probably more important than choosing between these three cpus.

BTW, I would avoid the P 820. Intel have better models on the way soon.

Now if it were me (and I'm guessing your budget to be ~$200), I would buy an Opteron 146 and overclock it. The last one I got cost me under $200 and clocked to 2.9GHz, which is well beyond an FX-57. Of course, you would need a socket 939 motherboard with some overclocking features.

If you're going to be gaming, the A64 3500+ is the easy choice (remember the sempron is a budget processor). I personally have a Pentium D 830, and would not reccomend it over a similarly priced Athlon X2 (where you can game and multitask).

Game: A64 is a winner
Office and video: D820

Dust Bin: sempron

Surely, 3500+ can play game with nice Graphic Card. But don't count on it with all Candy Eyes. You still have lag or chopper on my system: A8N32-SLI Deluxe with X2 4200 OC to 2.6, 2 Gb RAM, 7800 GTX, LCD 1280x1024 4ns in Age of Empire 3. You cannot play game with max setting in Video card or OC your proc.

Good luck
