A world war / holocaust. Things like natural disasters can really suck too, but when it's a war, it's people out to get you. You can build the biggest and strongest shelter possible, they'll blow it up, you can try to run, they'll shoot you. You're pretty much doomed.

Zombie outbreak. If you pick anything else you're either a woman or you're already a zombie.

"But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up."

In other words, I don't want to be there when the slate of the universe is wiped clean by God.

The worst catastrophic event would be the one where death couldn't come any sooner to end your misery and suffering. Living 10+ years with a festered biological outbreak (like internal and external ulcerations, radiation poisoning, etc.)

I suppose I could survive an ice age.... My house is a smallish ranch, well insulated. I don't have a rifle, so I would have a slight disadvantage with hunting, but my 357 magnum is pretty accurate for a handgun ... any animal within about 15-20 yeards should take only 1 or 2 shots, and I've got a couple hundred rounds of ammo .... My snowmobiles would provide mobility If I needed speed or towing power if the roads got to the point that my subaru was grounded. I have 2 of the same model snowmobile, so I could use the "worse one" as a parts machine when things start going bad .... to work outside, without freezing to death, I could erect a large snowfort and build a bonfire inside .... fuel would obviously be a major concern. Due to the scarcity of fuel, I'd probably stick to traveling on foot, cross country skiis or snowshoes ... I have 4 x 5 gallon gas cans (2 are premixed with 2 stroke oil), and a 2.5 gallon can, and I would make it last.... Also have several trees on my property, and over 200 acres of forest preserve under a mile away ...

I think the first couple of months of an ice age would sort of be fun, like a giant blizzard, though once reality set in, it would be major suckage ....

I assume this catastrphic event does not have to include extinction of the entire human race?

I'd say worldwide EMP strike(from a solar flare or whatever) that destroys all electronic equipment globally sending us all back into the stone age. :p

I wouldn't want to go through whatever it is that happened in "The Road". Whatever it was it left the earth incapable of producing plant life which lead to the death of all the animals and leaves only a few scattered humans to fight and scavenge and enslave each other for cannibalistic consumption.

Wouldn't mind so much dying in an "2012" apocalyptic event. Would be a pretty fun ride and get to see some amazing things.

With Zombie Apocalypse, at least you've got a fighting chance. Wouldn't want to get caught though.

Biologic/Viral would be the suckiest. You wouldn't get to see anything cool happen - sun explode/volcano erupt/wall of flame or water coming at you, ect. You'd just get infected and die.

And then there's the whole quarantine aspect and pretty much any movie about the subject makes them out to be a living hell...so that'd suck too.

You'd just be running around in fear hoping that you could avoid infection...if you could even avoid infection in the first wave.

Worst of the worst: Any kind of catastrophic event which destroyed the food and fuel sources of humans, e.g. killing all plantlife. Massive wars would break out over what was left, people would be enslaved, cannibalism, all manner of horrible events as people went mad over what was left.

Best of the worst: Death by snu-snu.

ive never understood this view. why would we suddenly be back in the stone age just because all existing technology ceases to operate? we still know how to make new ones, right? and EMP wont affect anything new we make.

id take my chances in the zombie thing over them all. although i do enjoy playing post-apocalyptic games, so world-wide nuclear war survival would be ok too :p

An object from space striking the earth and creating a resonating frequency that caused all the testicles in the world to explode.

I don't know, I guess a proper asteroid strike would be pretty quick. Or perhaps a good strong gamma ray burst.

Quicker: Spontaneous radioactive decay of all protons and neutrons in the planet.

Worst thread title ever.

Oh, and if I HAD to experience one of those, I think my order would be:

Supernatural Event
Biblical Event
Zombie Outbreak
Astronomical Event
Biological Event
