Hello! I have Win ME and I need a good word processing program to type up home work, etc. Right now I am using the basic WordPad which is pure garbage. I do not have tons of money to spend on MS Office just to get the newest version of MS Word...so thats out of the question. Whats a good reasonable word processing software I should buy?

Star Office is free. You can download from www.staroffice.com.
Edit link broken - try http://www.sun.com/staroffice )

I suggest you download version 6 beta, rather than the release 5.X. Version 6 Beta is better IMO.

Here are other good ones to try:

www.Software602.com - They have a free Office suite - very good. Small download size.

http://www.e-press.com - Another free office suite. The free version includes printing out to a PDF file. I don;t like this one as much as the others.

Abiword - Freeware, find on google. A Good word processor if all you need is the Word processor part.

I personally use StarOffice on my home computer. Its slow (compared to Word), but has no trouble importing Word and Excel files, and does everything I need. You'll need a broadband connection to download.

If you just need to do word processing, I highly recommend AbiWord. Last
time I used it on Windows was about 2 years ago, and I really liked it.
Must be at least 10 times better by now.

AbiWord
