Which wireless router should I buy?

My router finally died before christmas and I figured I'd go wireless (super G of course). These are the ones that I am looking at (other suggestions are welcome).

Gigabyte GN-B49G 802.11g
Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster
D-link AIRPLUS XTREME G 54MHZ WIRELESS ROUTER

Gigabyte is cheapest so I'm leaning toward it, but I've never heard of the brand. Anyone have this router? Anyone know if one of these routers is better than the other and why?

Thanks in advance,
Psyber

Go with the WRT54GS and run the Sveasoft firmware on it... so a search on the forums to get more info about the Sveasoft firmware.

Is it worth it for me to get this? I've had my SMC Barricade router for 5 years and the only thing I changed was opening some ports so I could play some games. My most important feature is speed. Have you heard anything about the Gigabyte?

Gigabyte is cheapest not just in money terms.

You indicated that you kept your SMC for five years. Across five years it would not matter so much if you initially paid $30 or $50.

May be this can Help: Wireless What Should I Get?

Look at CompUSA Site they are dumping Netgear for very little money this week.

I bought the Linksys WRT54G before "G" was adopted as a standard and have been using it ever since. I have had no troubles with it, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

The router is on the second floor with my main pc. My wireless notebook connects just fine setting at the dining table, and my computer bench in the basement connects with the Linksys wireless bridge with no problem.

Is Netgear better than D-Link? I am now leaning more away from Gigabyte. I like the D-Link Package. Jack helped me put it in perspective; if I can keep the router for more than 3 years price isn't as great a factor; I can't help being cheap though, I'm a bargainhunter to the core.

I ended up getting the D-Link DWL-926 Xtreme G Router for anyone that's interested in knowing. Thanks for your input everyone. I was worried about the router's range and since the D-Link has a removable antenna, I can always increase the range.

I didn't get the Linksys, because with all the work work, IT consulting work, website work, and graduate work, I won't even get to installing that Sveasoft firmware, let alone use it. It was good to know about it though.

I have no personal experience with D-Link but from all the things I hear about them, they are the K-Mart brand of router. Basically the cheapo ones that you get what you pay for. I rate LinkSys highest. NetGear and SMC after that, and then DLink Belkin, etc. The linksys routers work jsut fine with the normal firmware, the sveasoft stuff just gives you added functionality for specific reasons if you need it.

Is a 802.11g wireless router (ie. Netgear, Linksys) backward compatible wih a 802.11b adapter? Thanks!
