Which wireless DI-713P vs. SMC7004AWBR?

I have read pretty much everything that's out there to read... need some opinions of people like you!

Apparently the radio is better on the D-Link and it boasts bi-directional print-server port (which may not have all the features?).

The SMC has better support/warranty and ....?

Which one would you recommend to buy today? I'm planning on taking advantage of the special offer at Gatewaycom store?

Both D-Link and SMC are decent wireless routers. I had some issues with my DLink wireless point, but apparently, I had a bad one. That issue was that I couldn't keep a solid connection past 50 feet.

A friend of mine has the SMC wireless point and he loves it.

I went out and spent the big coin ($300 on ebay) for a Cisco Aironet 340 access point and 2 Aironet 340 PC cards. The Cisco brand is very nice. No matter where I go in my house or yard, I get a full bandwidth connection! Plus 128 bit WEP is nice extra protection too. 🙂

I guess that doesn't give credence to the D-Link radio being better... were there any problems returning it?

I don't know anything about the Cisco product... is it a firewall/router/switch/wireless with as many features as the ones this thread is about? It sounds like a great deal. Are the cards PCI adaptors with PCMCIA inserts?

I had no problems returning the D-Link. I would have gotten another one, but the store was out of stock. Instead, I just returned it for a full refund and then saved my money for the Cisco. Apparently, I had a bad one because D-Link answered my tech support email and said that I had a bad unit and offered to ship me another one and I ship the defective one back. I told them I wasn't interested cause I already took it back to the store and that was the end of that.

The Cisco branded Aironet 340 series is awesome equipment. However, you will pay for it. The stuff I got was open box on ebay, but in mint condition. I didn't get the PCI adaptors, so I don't know how they are. I did get 2 of the PCMCIA cards though and they are nice. They have just as many features if not more than all the other brands (128 bit encryption for instance). I can say, as a negative, it took me a couple hours to read through the documentation to figure out how to enable the 128 bit encryption, so the documentation could have been a little better. However, as for connectivity, it is the best I have ever seen in a wireless product. Brand new, the wireless access points run about $600 and each card runs $175 or so. You do get quality though.
