Which wireless connection is better?

My AirLink101 108Mbps wireless router connected to the internet is upstairs at one end of the house.

Downstairs at the other end of the house I have my Xbox 360 and my Series 2 Tivo.

The Xbox 360 is hooked to a Linksys WR54G flashed with DD-WRT and conifigured as a bridge that talks to the wireless router. This connection is decent enough to allow my kids to play Halo 3 online with relatively little lag.

The Series 2 Tivo is using a older 802.11b USB adapter to talk to the router. The connection seems flaky and doesn't allow me to transfer videos from my computer to my Tivo using Tivo Desktop Plus.

My goal is to improve the connection between my Tivo and my wireless router. The Tivo only has a USB 2.0 port, not an ethernet jack.

Would it be best to get a wireless G adapter that is on Tivo's lists of compatible adapters, or to get a usb 2.0 to ethernet converter from Tivo's list and hook the Tivo to the wireless bridge?

The wireless G adapter would be on its own "signal" going to the wireless router, but how would the power compare to the bridge since it is powered by the USB port?

The bridge is powered from the wall outlet, but it shares the same channel/signal as the Xbox 360.

Which is the better way to get the best throughput for both?

If the Linksys WR54G is near the TIVO, then a Good Wireless adapter on the TIVO would connect to the MainWireless Router in a same manner as the Linksys WR54G and thus will provide similar "Speed".

If the TIVO is further away, or a future wireless card physically would be in a place that its signal is reduced as compare to the signal that gets to the Linksys WR54G, then you are better of off going the cable to the Linksys WR54G way.

They'd have to share the airwaves in any case. The WRT54G has proven wireless performance and flexibility, so I'd stick with it instead of gambling on another adapter at likely higher cost and complexity.

The Tivo is near the bridge and could be plugged into it using a usb to ethernet adapter.

I guess what I'm looking for is a solution that provides continual performance for online gaming on the Xbox while also providing a steady but slower connection for the Tivo to download content from a computer on my LAN.

So, it boils down to:

wired connection from Tivo to existing wireless bridge (powered by AC adapter) which is currently used for Xbox 360 traffic

or

wireless G connection from Tivo to wireless router, powered by USB port on Tivo

I'm finding that cost for the two solutions is similar, with a slight cost benefit for going with the wireless g adapter. I either need to get a usb 2.0 to ethernet adapter from Tivo's approved list, or a usb wireless g adapter from Tivo's approved list. Complexity/gambling is not really an issue when using adapters approved by Tivo. (I tried buying a cheap usb to ethernet adapter not approvied from China... didn't work. I figure if I stick to ones proven to work with Tivo, I'll be okay.)

That's surprising. Which ones from where?

Ah yes, there are often great deals on Netgear refurbs these days. You might even find a still-cheaper wired adapter that way.
