which Win98se drivers for gaming?

I was reading forums on viahardware and I came across these recommendations.

Do NOT use direct X 8.1 in win98se....use DX 8.0
Do NOT use latest via 4 in 1...use Via 4 in 1 v 4.32
Do NOT use latest nvidia drvs... use 27.50, 27.70 or 21.85

Most everywhere else I go, they always tell you to d/l and use the latest drivers for all your components.
I guess latest is not always best, any agreements or dis-agreements?

Yep,
I run only dx 8.0a on my game machine(win98se),via 4.28 drivers, and 21.85 video drivers on GF3 Ti200. This combo works great for me. May be coincidence though.

I don't have any trouble running the latest drivers with my 98se....
