which wifi networking is better?

Hello. I like to have laptops that can gain wifi access in fairly long range. I have an older 21 dbi omni antenna attached to an rtl8187 adapter as well as a macbook with airport. I would have the 21 dbi antenna find a few more connections but they would never hold a good connection like the mac's airport. Basically, I wonder if I should upgrade my antenna/adapter to something better and more modern? (if so, what?) OR are there network cards out there already attached, like airport, that perform better?

Pick a chipset that matches the A/P and it will perform best.

Why not using a directional yagi? Omni's belong on AP's as they fire in a mushroom cloud downward.

agreed, OP needs a directional antenna not an omni. the range of a good directional antenna can be measured in miles with clear line of sight.

Forum that you shared with us is only related to wireless. I am sure that it has lot of things to learn from that forum.
