Which web hosting company do you recommend? I am new to this. Are there any ratings for web hosting services?

I am looking for a company that supports CGI scripts, PERL, JavaScript and ODBC/DSN connectivity.

Any recommendations?

DZones.com is a really good host. I like FindWebSpace.com for 'search for a host' type sites, and HostGlobal.com has many of these types of sites in their directory.

BTW - Stay away from addr.com . You might be tricked into thinking they're good by all the advertising they do, but in reality they suck. They oversubscribe bigtime.

Once you ignore all the ads, ISPcheck has some pretty good info on their site. I used them to pick a hosting company last year, Hostsave, for a small bandwidth domain. For domains that use lots of bandwidth, I use Webair.

What other reasons are they a bad choice?

If it will be a high traffic and/or commercial site, Web2010.com. I can count on one hand the number of hours of downtime I've had over the last 3 years. They are definitely not the cheapest, just the best.

For a lower volume/hobby type site, DIDS.com. I have two sites with them currently, and am moving a third to their servers. Wide variety of packages starting at about $9 a month.
