Which web browser is best on Vista x64?

I use Opera now but I am curious if IE 7 64bit edition has any improvement in speed over the 32bit edition. I'm wondering which browser is faster now. Opera used to be the fastest, is it still?

Figured I'd add firefox to the poll cause many people use it.

Basically I'm wondering if x64 did anything to improve IE (both versions are installed by default).

You wouldn't be using IE 64bit in 64bit Vista anyway. You'd still want to be using 32bit. Nevertheless, Firefox.

why?

fwiw: I find firefox to be too bloated with extra "add-ons" and ineffecient, but that's my experience with it.

Because Adobe has not released a 64bit plugin for Flash.
And without Flash, you can't see Intel's cool Flash-based advertisement with the cheetahs. 🙁

😉

BTW why don't you list 32-bit Internet Explorer in your poll? Vista x64 has both 64-bit and 32-bit IE7, and they run in Protected Mode by default, which is a major security enhancement whose time has come for browsers in general.

I use IE7 64-bit when collecting Trojans from bad places. I use IE7 32-bit for most other things so far.

Trivia item: on Vista, IE7 32-bit has its own dedicated Data Execution Prevention on/off toggle. To get at it, log in with an Administrator account, go to Start > All Programs, and right-click the Internet Explorer and choose Run As Administrator. Now you can go to Internet Options > Advanced and checkmark the box for "Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks." However, this may cause add-ons such as Flash to crash the browser with DEP faults sometimes. 64-bit IE7 has this setting permanently enabled, so maybe Adobe is still trying to make a Flash Player that doesn't cause DEP faults to occur? Just speculating 🙂

well, flash is a pretty major tool to not work. I see alot of sites using it.

I was just wondering if there was any benefit to the 64-bit version...guess not

I've got to resurrect this i'm sorry. I just installed vista 64bit and i was wondering if IE 64 now can use flash, i'm just gonna assume it can... and can anyone let me know what is the best browser in vista x64? I haven't really used opera, used firefox alot but mainly cause i loved adblock... thanks for any help, - seth

Adobe still has no Flash Player for 64-bit IE. From a security standpoint, I chose 64-bit IE followed by 32-bit IE, but if you like adblock then that's probably not what you mean by "best."
