which water cooling kit will fit into a super lanboy?

im tired of the inferior cooling of my xp120 and m1a

my cpu on load only at 1.586v is near 50c...which happens to be where my cpu loses stability cuz of temps

people have said my cpu is maxed out...but i dont believe so...not at only 1.586v

to test this, i've put it at very low overclock which i know is 100 percent stable otherwise....and i turned off all my case fans and left only the cpu fan at the lowest

my temps quickly rose to 55 on load and my hypothesis was correct...prime errored within a few minutes

so thats why i want to get a watercooling kit that'll fit inside a super lanboy.

im pretty newbie to watercooling as i've never had one before so a "kit" will teach me the ropes. kits are getting better these days so i've heard...

I have done extensive high-end watercooling. I switched back to air cooling and use an xp120. From my experience, your overclock won't increase if you use watercooling instead of an xp120. Many A64's max out under 1.6V- mine does.
You may benefit from lapping your xp120. Mine had a warped base. Also, of course, make sure your case has good ventilation. You could also consider a duct to bring cool air from outside your case to your cpu.

I don't understand how that can be. Beyond certain characteristics inherent in the available mb and CPU, overclocks are based on voltage and controlling temperatures. If cooling has no place in the equation, and air and water are the same in terms of effectiveness, those with highly advanced cooling wouldn't be able the achieve the extreme over clocks they have. Hence air is okay, water is better and something like phase change would be ideal.

Perhaps your XP120 is not mounted correctly. The XP120 performs just as well as medium quality water cooling equipment.

high end aircooling has it's place at the expense of high CFM fans... you will nt be able to get 25C on idle with a xp120 of yours on a low to medium fan.. you software based temps aren't just accurate enough... high end watercooling has it's niche being quiet and cool and also being able to cool your gpu as well.

hey guys, i'll try to answer all the questions and requests at once:

first of all, here is a pic of my case:

dinky and crowded case

second of all, my xp120 is lapped to a mirror finish, i've even mounted without thermal paste by accident right after i was done lapping it

temps resulted to be only around 2-3C worse than with thermal paste, so contact is good

i've checked and rechecked my contact on the cpu and applied and reapplied AS5 using different methods (the official AS5 method and smearing a thin layer accross the whole cpu method)

temps remain the same, idle is great....28-31c...load is horrible...46-51

weird that temps jump around so much and so high

i really think the xp120 isnt as good as it looks or is hyped to be. why do i think so?

look at this recent poll i gave

i know the results are inconclusive since its only 23 people...but the distribution is pretty obvious

i just took my xp120 out tonight...i didnt take pics, but if you look at the base where the heatpipes are connected to the fins...it doesnt look like the contact is perfect...especially where the heatpipes "end" at the base...its not even contacting like four or five of the fins! im talking about where its crimped off (the heatpipes)

essentially...the xp120 relies almost completely on heatpipes...which i find to be inadequate since they are harder to cool off than good solid fins....

Chinkgai you can make 2 blow holes and mount the radiator on top just like I did on my other mid tower... Also you may only be able fit a Black ice pro 2 with 2x120mm fans at the expense losing 1 or 2 5.25 bays. You can use either a T-line or a reservoir whatever you're more comfortable with. Also youc an fit the danger den ddc or the swiftech mcp350 in the floppy bay 🙂 if you prefer you can always obtain a d4 or a mcp600 aka aquaextreme 50z and mount it at the bottom of the case.

Well, the XP120 works great for everyone I know. Maybe you got one with bad pipes or something.

As far as watercooling goes: I look at cooling methods in terms of price/performance benefits. Watercooling will cost you $200. or more and may get you an extra 50-100MHz overclock on an A64 and 100-150MHz more on an XP. You will only see a higher overclock if you are willing to use a lot of vcore. I know this from experience since I had a top of the line watercooling system with chilled water. You have to spend a lot on watercooling to get very little in return.

To me, watercooling isn't about overclocking potential. Its about loving to tinker with parts and work on your system. Its high-maintenance.

idleuser: i cant lose two 5.25 bays...i only have two! lol...theres actually three...but the topmost one is cluttered with my psu wires cuz they're so long...

maybe i'll just get a new case...i was looking at the thermaltake armor

this guy should be big enough to fit a watercooling kit and maybe even a dead body in

pelikan: my pipes work great, they're the only things that work! im talking about the fins not working...unlike in my old sp97, where i felt warmth from the fins AND the pipes...at a muuuuch higher voltage
