which virus is this?

Ok, you know that one virus/worm that makes up fake email addys and sends you messages with no body? Well, recently I got 2-3 that have attachments that open as soon as you look at the email (in Outlook). That's crap, how can it do that?

There are several worms/virii that will open if you have the preview pane open. Best/easiest defense, disable the preview pane and run anti-virus software that will scan everything before you look at it.

Could be the klez virus.

Assuming you don't have a preview pane open, right-click on the message and click "Properties", then view message source. You should be able to see where the email (likely emails) came from and can help them get rid of the virus.

Newer versions of Klez work similar to that. They use a script to execute the virus which starts right as you open the infected email. You don't need to open any attachment, just open the email.

Wow that sucks. So aside from sending all these stupid emails in and out does it do any damage?
