The default for normal folders is "Details" view but I find it very limited in terms of viewing real estate I have to keep scrolling down to find the files I want.

I prefer the "List View"

What does everyone else prefer?

List view by default for speed and coverage. It is easy to change from there if more info is needed. I like to avoid default TMI.

I voted "Different", but I try to avoid Explorer altogether. I've been using Total Commander (formerly Windows Commander) since 1993 and couldn't live without it.

What annoys me , In win 7 If I have details view on and look at a music CD ripped to the local drive, the columns differ from what I would see with "standard" folders such as Windows, Program files, etc.
~~ Will try Total commander, thanks Jkauff!

Details. I see no difference between List and Details except that List wastes space by not showing me the 'details'. 😵

Total commander is very expensive man, $50 USD for a license :whiste:

$44, actually. And when they say "lifetime", it's really lifetime. I paid $25 in 1993 and have had free upgrades ever since. Well worth the money IMO, but you can try it out free for 30 days.

I would buy it for $25 USD bro but not $44 that's too much for what it does.

let me look around if i can find some discounts

Details by far. Very rarely I'll use large icons as thumbnails for quickly sifting through images with ambiguous filenames but mostly I have Adobe Lightroom for that business.

I voted different views for different folders though as I almost always use Details except for folders containing either pictures or videos, then I use either Large or Medium icons.

I noticed a high amount of votes for Large Icons and thought who would admit to using large icons. Is it a vision reason or simply a preference?
Hmmmmmm thats an interesting question....

I guess its pretty looking @ the icons, the different colours,etc.......

Details. I even go as far as disabling the "smart" content type detection so that every folder (except for the special preordained ones like "My Pictures"--those, I have to adjust manually) uses Details by default, even ones that contain all videos or all music, etc. Yes, even for pictures, though it helps a lot that 8 and 8.1 has an easy 1-click way to switch between thumbnails and details, so I can quickly switch into thumbnail view when I need it.
