It doesn't just depend on your video card. If you have a good video card and a bad CPU, then it's still useless. What's the rest of your system?

i agree, we had a rage pro at school that ran UT2003 just fine, but it had a pentium4 in it. I prefer the old UT with my Voodoo5 in GLIDE.

BTW fin, what kind of CPU you got and what is your current GPU?

I have a xp1700, not overclocked. I have a AIW ATI card. I believe it has 32 megs of memory on it. Its the one with a built TV turner on it. I am getting jerky video and very slow video response playing UT2003.

Have you updated your drivers? A 32MB AIW should be either a Rage128 or Radeon level gfx card, either of them should be able to play UT2K3 with settings dialed down paired with a XP 1700.

That bothers me.. people say UT2k3 runs so good on anything.. my system doesn't even run it completely smoothly

P4 3.0GHz with a TI4200 128MB

my XP1700+ computer with a Radeon 8500LE runs it butter smooth.

needless to say, I am getting a 9700 Pro for my main computer :p

I ran UT2K3 smoothly at 1024x768 on medium settings (with decals and coronas off!) on my XP2000+ and GeForce2 Ti without problems. So, by that reasoning, even a GeForce4MX card should do you alright on your system (basically not much faster than my old GeF2). But I can't in good conscience recommend the GeF4MX to anyone!

Frankly, I would never recommend anything less than a Radeon 8500/9100 (not the 9000) or maybe a FX5200 (haven't seen detailed benches yet for the non-Ultra, so hard to recommend at present). A Ti4200 would be a better buy than either of those if you can get one cheaply enough.

Just to give you a comparison, I now run a Radeon 9500 Pro and play UT2K3 at 1280x1024 on highest settings with everything on and 2XAA and 8X Performance FSAA forced .... and it runs even better than it did on lower settings with the GeF2 (and looks gorgeous to boot). But that card will cost you almost twice as much the 9100/FX5200, so its your choice what to go for ...
