Which video card would you choose for a single card setup?

I currently have a 7800 GTX 512 card in my system, next week I will be recieving a X1900XT, which one is better? From the few benchmarks Ive seen it looks like they are pretty much neck and neck. Is it just down to a matter of preference?

x1900xt > 7800gtx 512

If it's a 7900gtx 512, then they're pretty equal, with the 7900 doing it quieter/cooler if that's important to you.

nVidia for slightly higher frame rates and supporting some shader features few games use and if you do use them, they make the frame rates almost unplayable vs. the 1900 for overall better picture quality and standing up to higher eye candy settings like AA and AF without losing as many frames on the low end numbers, where it really counts.

For either card, you will need stout power and competent cooling.

7800 GTX? Then I'd get the x1900xt.

I'd likely even get it against the 7900gtx, because I mostly play source engine games and oblivion.

How far does your 7800GTX 512 oc? Why not just keep it? It's still a really fast card...

yeah the 7800GTX is plenty fast still, its just that I am getting a X1900XT for free and since I cannot run both of these cards at the same time for faster perfomrance, I wanted to see the benefits of both and just keep one.

heheh anyone got an evga 7800GTX they wanna trade up for a X1900XT in the coming weeks? :)

The X1900XT is worlds better than a 7800GTX 512MB. The 7800GTX 512 is 550/1700, the X1900XT can beat even the eVGA 7900GTX SuperClock @ 690/1760, and not only that, it has better features and image quality.

You forget that "speed" of ATI is only pertinent when you run with AA+AF on because ATI has always had a more efficient (angle-dependant) AA and AF scheme. Look at the benchmarks where no AA or AF is used (since I see this being more pertinent on current games, unless you want to see percentage performance differences at the 10s of fps, certainly not playable), nVidia seems to run off with almost the benchmarks by 5-10%.

I am gonna test both, I know they are gonna be faster than each other in different situations, but the consensus is that the 7800GTX 512 is going to be quieter. Maybe even if I go sli it may remain quieter since the cooler is so well designed on the 7800GTX512/7900GTX cards.

Anyone willing to trade a 7800GTX 512 for this card.... its still sealed heheh

You play games with no AA or AF ?

For me its quite the opposite. I throw out the benches without AA/AF because I always have them on. When the time comes I have to turn AA/AF off to get a playable experience, its time for me to upgrade my video card.
