which video card to upgrade to?

I'm planning to upgrade to an AMD 64 3000+ or 3200+ and an Abit motherboard with 1gb of Ram. Right now I have an AIW 9600 Pro. What is a recommended vid card to upgrade to? Will there be that much difference in FPS? Not sure if a vid card upgrade is necessary or not. I play Half Life 2, Warcraft 3, NBA Live 2005, NFSU, and Unreal Tournament.

Are you doing PCI-e or AGP?

A 6600gt is the lowest card I'd recommend upgrading to. It's a very good card for the money and would give you a nice boost.

Beyond that, a 6800nu, X800XL, and 6800gt would be the cards I would recommend.

This will give you an idea of what kind of performance jump to expect

dang, a 6600gt kills my 9600

keep your 9600 get an aftermarket hsf and o/c it higher
the 9600 is still a very good card

Depends on the game and the setting you select.

Keep the 9600 for now, and I guess you'll find out when you put everything together what res you can run. You can use FRAPS to check your framerate in-game, to make it easier to see which res will give you 30fps or more. You're probably looking at 1024 or loewr with newer games, but older ones should allow for higher res or AA.
