Which video card should I keep- Radeon 8500 or Ti 4200?

I want some opinions here
I currently own a Radeon 8500le 64mb
I just got a good deal on a geforce4 Ti4200 Asylum 128mb
Is their going to be a difference between these cards that I will acually be able to notice as opposed to just a few extra FPS?
If they are basically the same card as far as performance reasons then I am going to return the 4200
Thanx

the GF4 should perform better than the 8500le
i dunno if the performance difference warrants the upgrade tho
if you could sell the radeon do that, if not return yur GF4 cause it's not a big enough upgrade
If all is equal tho i rather have the GF4 Ti4200 128mb card

the GF4 is a much faster card. I had an 8500LE and RMAed it for a GF4 4200 (64MB) and the GF4 is much better (10-20 fps better in UT 2003). However i would try to sell the 8500.

I would install the GeForce and place the Radeon on the shelf as a spare part. It is always good to have a known quantity on the shelf, ready to go. If you start getting random lockups, etc., then you can have a way of dealing with it. It is also good for when you build a new system to have a "mule" you can depend on during the initial build phase.

I would take Corky's advice and go with the Ti4200, and keep the 8500 as a spare backup.
You can do that or try to sell the 8500 to someone cause they are still a good card that people would like.

I'm going to be a rebel here, lol. My uses may vary from yours, so take it with a garin of salt.

I use a 21" trinitron monitor at at LEAST 1600x1200 res... the image quality on that 8500 is noticably better with text at higher res then the gf4. And, secondly (is that a word?), the 8500 has a very nice DVD hardware decoder, which works fantastic. If you ever plan on going duel display, this is going to be important to you.

Then again, I'm nto your typical computer user. I game occasionally, but the pure utility aspect of cards keeps me looking. There WILL be a speed difference between the 2 cards, but depending on what games you're playing you may not notice it. I would keep the 8500, and scalp that Asylum on ebay (BF rocks, doesn't it?)

I love my 8500, but I got an 8500LE by mistake the other day, and they suck compared to the regular 8500. The 2d, and the DVD decoder, and the TV out are all way better on ATI than the Nvidia crap, but the 4200 is faster at 3d games. If it was a regular 8500 128 meg, they scream. You decide.

I have an 8500 (retail 64 meg) and have recently installed a couple Ti4200 64 and 128 meg versions (all by MSI).

I would definately install the 128 meg 4200 Right Now !

If you already have both, then by all means, try them both and see how you like them. If you haven't already purchased the Ti4200 then unless you got an amazing deal, I would just download the latest ATI drivers and OC it to stock 8500 speeds and wait a while longer before upgrading video cards again. With recent drivers, the 8500 is nearly as fast as a Ti4200 with better 2D quality and crank up the AA and Aniso a bit, which is where the 8500 really shines. I rather imagine that there are very few games out that will stress an 8500, anyway.

i have a 8500 none le overclocked to 300mhz gpu and 600mhz ram and it can just keep up with a 4200 at stock speeds. so when it comes to 3d games i would just take the 4200 and overclock that puppy to 4600 speeds. ati is better for everyday use and the geforce is better for gaming. if you can get way more for the 4200 sell that cause the difference will not be that much. but i would take the 4200.

exactly what i am doing

Id go with TI4200 based on the 128 meg frame buffer. I currently own a 128meg 8500LE and it is a great card as well, but the 128 megs will help later down the road.

Keep the Radeon if you're a high resolution/max anisotropic filtering junkie. Anisotropic filtering absolutely murders all current nVidia cards.
