I think that you're right about the ATI cards. You see, I am visiting this forum for more than a year and I happen to have something that many here haven't: an average ability of remembering (I think it's called "MEMORY").

In the recent past many people were thrilled by the thought that they'd have their brand new Radeon 32MB SDRAM in their hands. And when they did they seemed very enthusiastic about its 2D quality and the decent number of frames. Some months later the same people were shouting that they would never get an ATI product again due to the poor driver support. They were installing beta drivers or just putting away the card. Now many are making the same mistakes, going for the 8500, just because ATI released ONE good set of drivers ONLY for this specific product (not even for the still new 7500). Logic says that they will wait for long before (if...) they see new and better drivers from this company.

On the other hand, nVidia is releasing official and unofficial drivers every 2 months. My old TNT card still has up-to-date support and it can run almost everything. I just spent 290$ for a GF3 (it was a bargain to the place I live, since the expensive cards like Asus GF3 Deluxe cost 490$!) but I know that I will use it for at least 2 years without problems. Even if I spent 100$, I'd feel really ripped off if I had to face incompatibilities after a year due to the lack of updated drivers. And all I can say for every PC component is that the "best" turns really soon to crap without them.:disgust:
So, see your money, look to the stores and take the best nVidia your money can buy. As simple as that. And if you can't afford something you like right now, I think that it's better to wait than throwing your $£¥ away
