I recently have been getting parts to upgrade my computer, and I have been wondering which card i should get. I've been looking at the Radeon 9600 XT and I just wanted to know if there are any other cards out there that are around the price range that are better? Thanks for the help!!.. (Ps no more than 190 dolla~)

Please search the forum, and/or read the articles on AT proper. This is discussed *daily*.

Ditto.

And in case you cant be arsed;

Midrange ATI = 9600pro
Midrage nVidia = 5700Ultra
Winner = 9600pro (better at DX9)

High End ATI = 9700pro (if you can get)
High End nVidia = FX5900NU
Winner = 9700pro (There just amazing for the price)

Enthusisast ATI = 9800XT
Enthusisast nVidia = FX5950Ultra
Winner = 9800XT (You need to ask?)

The above might point to me being ATI bias, but im not. Its just that ATI have the better line up in this generation. Until the next gen, ATI is on top!

Ok basically I have narrowered down the card I want to these two:

The GeForce 5900 NU
http://www.futurepowerpc.com/scripts/details.asp?PRDCODE=VB_PNY_FX5900_128TD

Ati Radeon 9600XT
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-331&depa=1

Personally I do play counter-strike still.(Yes I know it's an old game but I still like to play it) But, I also plan on playing future games like D3, HL2. So my question is which card would give the best performance in BOTH games. Please don't turn this thread into a ATI vs nVIDIA even though I am setting this up that way. Just help me figure out which card would help me get the best performance in all the games I listed.

Okay, that question needs to go in General Hardware or Cooling or CPUs/Overclocking. One topic per thread, PLEASE.

If you know of anymore that are better and are around that price range. (No more than 10) then please do tell :)
Looks OK for just standard Cooling, but dont expect decent Temps or OCing ability out of it.
Look for something by Thermaltake, they do good cheap HSFs.

If we needed Forum police, then AT would have hired then. We dont need ppl trying to do it freelance.
BUT, i can see where your coming from, but cut him/her a little slack, s/he`s a n00b here, so s/he probably isnt 100% on the ruling/s here.

9600XT competes with 5700 Ultra. 5900 non ultra (including the SE series) is much faster than either of those cards and is faster than 9700 Pro in many games. You can't find the 9700 Pro for less than $230, you can get the 5900 from Newegg for $185 including full version of Call of Duty. I think the choice is clear.
