Which video card? Shopping for friend

I am going to be installing a video card for a friend, he mostly plays everquest, and has a geforce2 currently. He has an Athlonxp like 1400+, with 512 of DDR ram. Obviously ultra high-end cards aren't going to be worth it.

Probably gotta stay under $200, and probably under $150. Radeon 9700 is listed on pricewatch for around $175, will a Radeon 9700 non-pro be faster than geforce4s? I see a geforce4 ti4600 for $170, so basically it comes down to which is quicker, 9700 or ti4600?

The 9700 will smoke the 4600 easy. Overclock that thing...4600 can smell the afterburner smoke.

9700 all the way. The Ti would be lucky catch a whiff of the vapour trail as the Radeon blows by it.

9700 is faster, be sure to clean out all nvidia drivers before you install it. probably a fresh windows install will be the best
