I was just curious as to what video card overclocking utilities are out there, and which one is considered the best for my card, a radeon x800 xl 256mb pci express. i know about power strip, but i was looking for some other alternatives. ive heard of a utility that adds a tab to your video card prefs, but i havent be able to find anything on it. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the advice. i checked out rivatuner, and didnt really care for it. but i did manage to find a program called atitool, at the same site i believe. the program is great. its simple, fast, and effective. i was able to go to 410/520, could have gone farther, but i dont really have a case that im very confident in its cooling ability. (basically when i went to build my new computer, i didnt have enough money to get a nice case. basically i put my money into performance over looks). also, i found out that my proc is "holding back" my video card. when i oc'd my vid card, i only gained maybe a hundred or so 3dmarks (01), but when i oc'd my proc to 3.2ghz (from 3.0) i gained over 1000 marks. so i think im gonna invest in a new cpu heatsink before to long! thanks again

Look at Rage 3D tweak. Hang on and I'll get a link.

EDIT: Check HERE. Version 3.9 Scroll down to you see it.

3Dmark2001 is crazy CPU bound on the newer GPU's, try using the newer 2003 or 05 if you are set on using 3dMark to bench how much the vid card OC helps (I am guilty of using them too)

R3DT can add a tab (just choose the OC with the Nothing Skin) and can optionally have some registry values edited to make it look absolutely ATI original.

However, ATI Tray Tools (radeon.ru) is the really the best OC and tweaker -although really it goes beyond a tweaker and can be considered an increased functionality replacement for the ATI CP or CCC.

i looked at rage 3d tweak and it looked like exactly like what i wanted. i was so excited! i got home, installed it, and when it gave me the option to choose what video card for it to use, it said it didnt support my card. BLAST!! oh well, i still have atitool, it was at least able to overclock my card. thanks again. and if anybody knows why the r3dt wont work, could you let me know? id still like to get it goin.

Did you get version 3.9? The site says it's for x800 series. You might check the forums there too. No doubt lots of peeps with ATI cards posting over there. Just do a search if you're having probs with the 3.9 version.

I can't test it, cuz I went with nVidia this go around. But I really liked their tweaker proggie when I was using my 9800p.

Yeah, I also use ati tray tools, and it has all the tweaks you ever wanted. I use for OC, setting up game profiles, and it's a small program too. Highly recommended.

Here's an old piccy of how the R3DT OC tab can look. I hope you can get it working but if not try ATI Tray Tools, as said (not to be confused with ATI Tool).
