I'm looking at getting rid of one of them, but don't know which is better nowadays?

Lol, some... I guess I just recently acquired this radeon 9800 and have found no reason to upgrade my ti4200 UNTIL I did research that the radeon was a great card. Just wondering how the two stacked up.

I would miss my Video In/Video Out (av and svideo) on my 4200 though.

Since this is an active board at the moment, does it matter that my board only supports 4X agp?

I'm impressed by the overall support for the Radeon. I think I might have to install it and try it for myself. I was looking to sell it actually... heh. But if it's better than my previous card, then whats the point.

That would be a good call. After all the 9800np is only a bit slower than a 9700 pro, which is roughly twice as fast as that ti4200.

Awesome, thanks for the responses guys. I haven't been keeping up with the hardware field since I got out of computer science and got a girlfriend :). Thanks again! I'm going to try this out here in a few minutes...

I'm such a rebel.
Or you do a bunch of video capture with VIVO ;)

To the OP, if you use the VIVO and it's more important than better gaming performance to you, don't swap! Sure the 9800 is faster, but if ain't VIVO/AIW it's useless to you for those tasks.

These guys have it all wrong. Send me the Radeon 9800 and I will PayPal you $49 for the trouble. ;)

Or you could switch to the 9800, sell the 4200, and buy a TV/Video capture card...

Good point! I see that there is a good deal on newegg.com for one too.

Radeon 9800np in my computer w/Athlon 2700
4200ti in my kids computer w/Athlon 2600
Radeon blows 4200 away.
I know the lower number Radeon cards with a pro or xt rating are faster. But with games like Doom 3 that use more Dx9 features such as shaders. I wonder if having more shader pipelines in the 9800np will make it faster for new games?
