I Need Help In Picking A Video Card For Battlefield 2:

9500 128MB Radeon for 55$ which can be softmodded to 9700

or

PNY Verto GeForce 256MB DDR Graphics Card 6600 for 75$

I need to pick which plays best with battlefield 2, also if someone knows where i could get a good vid card for under 90$ plz tell me, thx

When you say "can be softmoded" do you mean it has been tested to work or just that it is one that will allow the softmod but who knows whether it has bad pipes or not? If you know the softmod will work then it is the better deal, but otherwise get the 6600.

the 6600GT will play BF2 better by far if for no reason other than the 256MB VRAM
that will make a huge difference

yea he says it could be softmodded and heres somethin else he said:

It is 128MB. Btw, this video card is faster than the 6600 in most games? simply because it will have 8 pipelines running at 277 MHz and 256-bit RAM running at 270 MHz and that is without overclocking. The 6600 will only have 4 pipelines and 128-bit RAM. Basically, the 9700/9800 from the previous generation are faster than the 6600/X700. You can see this from most benchmarks as well, at HardOCP or Anandtech, if they manage to compare these cards. The only game I?ve seen the 6600GT to be a bit faster was in Doom3, but its slower in all others like FarCry, Half-Life2, etc?

6600s oced(make sure to buy 1 used with a good confirmed stable oc). now 256mb ram is pretty worthless performance wise on the 6600 since it does not have the memory bandwith to take advantage of it all(1mb per bit of bandwith is a general rule of thumb).
if you can get a 500/600mhz 6600 or better it should be faster. the 6600 is 8pipe 3vs not 4 pipe.

im not too good wid comps, so i dont really know what u mean (i get the oc part, but not the 256 ram part)

256mb on a 128bit interface means there is the path for data to travel to and from the memory is too narroy ot effectively use 256mb. in reviews, 256mb cards are only minimally faster(2% max). 128mb fro a 600 is fine.

He is understateing the ablities of the 6600gt, it has twice as many pipelines as he claimed and runs at a bit higher clockspeed than the 9700 so it has better fillrate as well. The 9500 softmoded would have better memory bandwidth assuming he is right about it being a 256bit bus card, but I wouldn't take his word for it considering he doesn't even know how many pipes a 6600 has.

hmm how bout this:

VGA FX 5900SE 128 MB, 256 bit (called an XT by other graphics card makers) with a Zalman ZM80HP heatpipe and 80mm fan. Original heatsink and fan will be included. This thing is a monster and looks great in any case with a window. With the fan removed and just the heatpipe, it is 100% silent. Perfect for an HTPC. I run it and game with it @ 412/730 and there is more room to go. Of course YMMV. Plays games very well at 1280x1024, but I wouldnt try to push any higher of a resolution with it for gaming if you want settings maxed. $80 plus shipping (final price reduction)

read tihs
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20050705/index.html

remember the 6600 tested is bone stock so add around 15-20%% to the score and that's about right for a decent oc.

of course, if you are willing, just buy a 9800pro for $90 and get it over with, a 9800pro with a decent oc, will kill a 6600 will an great oc or even a 5900xt with a great oc. also, the 9800pro uses a lot less electricity than the power hogs fx 5900 series.

the FX series are pretty bad. 4X2 pipes my a55

dosent matter.
I have a 128mb R360 core that is oced(decent oc. not good though since my memory holds me back). It got 3000 3dmarks05(2600 stock).
I then flashed it to a 9800xt 128mb bios. It got 3200-3300 3dmark2005s with the same oc.

as you see, it's much faster than a 6600.

wut does this mean?

BBA Radeon 9800 pro 128mb agp retail. Works fine, comes in original box and includes the svideo to composite adapter and the dvi to vga adapter. Also has manual and driver cd R350 core $90

good card. see if you can find a R360 core 9800pro. if you cant, get that card. nice comprehensive list of components and from a quality manufacturer(ATi itself) and good price.

how bout this:

You will get only the card, vga silencer all ready mounted,
stock heatsink and fan, and any ramsinks that stay on ( im not
guranteeing that one or so might come off in shipping, they are only
held on by double sided heatsink tape if you know what i mean).

Ati brand 9800np 128meg agp. Comes with both stock cooler and vga silencer * artica cooling) and ramsinks. gpu does 420-430mhz depending on case and outside temp

for 85$
