Which video card has the best TV-Out picture?

I wanna get a new vid card so I can watch my DVD/DiVX on the TV in my bedroom. What card would be my best bet to get? And I'm looking to keep this under $100 if possible.

The best PC solution would be to get a hardware DVD decoder like a Hollywood+ for about $60 but my question is why would you want to? Then you would need to get about $20 worth of cables to hook it up to the TV. You can get a cheap DVD player for around $100. Plus you don't run into problems like having email come in and causing the movie to skip or in the worst case scenario, Windows crashing. Then you have the problem of getting sound to work properly on your TV. A dedicated player is the best way to go in the long run.

ATi's rage theatre chip is the nicest TV-out chip. (Used in the Rage128 Pro cards and the Radeon Vivo retail, and of course the All-in-wonders)

But if you want it specifically for DVD playing on your TV, like Windogg said, pick up a cheap DVD player.

The Rage theatre chip is nice, and I got the 64MB Retail Radeon so that I could use TV-out when I wanted it...but really getting TV-out by itself isn't a good reason for getting a video card. I think you could find a better way to get DVDs on your TV.

Just remember the 16MB All-in-Wonders DO NOT have the Rage Theater chip. They use a different one that is not as good.

But otherwise the ATi's as mentioned are very good for TV-out.

But if all you want to do is watch DVD, get a separate DVD player as others have said.

Well it not just DVD. I have DiVX and AVI's that I want to watch too. So a stand-alone DVD player is not an option. And it's on my second pc so there is no concern about e-mails and stuff. Oh, and it's Win2k, so the card needs to be compatible with that. What do these ATI's cost? Can I get one for around $100?

OK, looks like I can get the Rage Fury Pro for under $100. Says that uses the Rage Theater Chip on thier site(I'll get the 32MB version). So the TV out quality on that card should be just as good as the on the All-In-Wonder Radeon that goes for $250+ right? If so I found my card and thank you guys for the help.

Yes the AIW Radeon does lots of other stuff, and of course the Radeon is faster for games than the Rage Fury Pro.
But the Rage Theatre chips is the Rage Theatre chip regardless of what's card it's on, the AIW has TV-in and TV tuning and sh!t like that, for TV-out the Fury will be just as good.

Great, Thanks Noriaki. That AIW Radeon does do one helluva lot of crap for sure. But I know I will never use all those features. And I use my other 2 systems for gaming anyway, so the speed isn't an issue.

Matrox is good but you can't use a TV as the only display for your system. A monitor has to be connected, too.

I'm using G400 and it's awesome watching Divx on my TV's. I don't think I can ever get cards without TV-OUT.

The Rage Fury Pro has TV out and TV in, but I think you need to d/l beta drivers to get TV in (and perhaps out also, not sure).

The latest Win 98/me release drivers for the Rage Fury Pro fix all the video in problems. Video out always worked.

I have a Rage Fury Pro under Win 98SE and everything finally works the way it is supposed to 🙂
